Christmas Ornament Cozy

I have some ornaments that I didn't love - they were dark green and blended in with the tree.

So I decided to yarn bomb them! (And now they are sorta cushioned against breakage, too!)

And here's the pattern!

Christmas Ornament Cozy

Materials needed:

  • Christmas ornament (mine were 2.5 and 3.25 inches in diameter)
  • Thin yarn (I used fingering / sock)
  • D hook

Instructions for 2.5-inch ornament (parens for 3.25-inch ornament)

  1. Ch 15 (25) sts.
  2. Sc across.
  3. Ch 1; in back loops only, sc in next 2 (3) sts, hdc next 2 (3) sts, dc to last 4 (6) sts; hdc next 2 (3) sts, sc last 2 (3) sts.
  4. Ch 1; in back loops only, sc across.
  5. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until your piece just about stretches over your ornament. Bind off, leaving a long tail. Sew up the piece and stretch it over your ornament.

You can adjust your chain length for larger or smaller ornaments, or for different sizes of yarn. You can certainly use thicker yarn than I used here and even add little flourishes, like flowers, mistletoe, or felt characters.
