Thanksgiving karma

With Thanksgiving only days away, I've been thinking a bit of what I have to be thankful for.

It's been easy lately for me to dwell on the negative things. The economy is crap, we might not be able to sell our condo next year, I still don't have a job for post-graduation, and I don't get to see friends and family nearly as much as I would like.

However, my experiences over the last few difficult years have taught me what really matters: a healthy family, a solid marriage, and a handful of friends that I can really count on.

So, if you fall into one of those categories, I thank you. We all need people that make our lives better. If you've done that for me in the past, I thank you. It has made all the difference.

The conclusion I've come to is that I need to start being more proactive about the people I keep in my life. I've already been pretty selective about trying to seek companionship with people who make my life better (rather than worse), but there is still more work for me to do.

I have very little time and patience anymore to waste on people who don't improve my life in return. However, I want to be more thankful and to do more in return for the people who do make my life a better place to exist. Call it karma.

P.S. 400th post!
