Saving the earth through crochet...maybe

I received something interesting from Dave's cousin recently: instructions on how to crochet or knit out of plastic bags.

Basically you use the instructions to cut up plastic bags into a single, long one-inch strip...

Then start crocheting (or knitting)! I used a size N hook, because the one-inch strip is hard to get around.

I made a small purse with a flower; I tried to keep this first project small and not too daunting. I'm donating this one to Julie's cystic fibrosis fundraising efforts.

I think it turned out better than I expected! I really enjoyed making it, especially since it keeps plastic bags out of the dumpster.

However, I do have plans to make a larger version that you could actually use in grocery shopping. I've certainly got enough plastic bags to use up, and Dave would be really happy to get the big pile of them out of our pantry.

Let me know if you want to sign up for an earth-friendly bag!

Val,

I can't believe you made it so fast. I think I sent you that link just two days ago.

And yet, I'd love to have a bag for shopping made out of plastic bags!

Wow! I'd love to have a bag, if it won't take too much time away from canvassing for Barack!!
