Sparks at the Park

Happy Fourth of July!

This year Andy came over for an all-American dinner, which included chorizo-bacon-and-bleu-cheese-stuffed burgers, corn, potato salad, and lemon bars! Oh, and Leinenkugel's beer and Long Island iced teas. Mmm...

Then we went over to the Arlington Park track for the fireworks show, which was a good time. It didn't quite top last year's fireworks under the St. Louis Arch, but the show was quite lovely. From the vantage of the park stands, we were able to see fireworks from other venues, such as Elk Grove, Schaumburg, Mt. Prospect, and Barrington, by the looks of it.

It was also not as difficult to enter or exit as I had anticipated. Given that North Side drivers generally have all the grace and courtesy of a horny water buffalo, I expected the worst. However, there was only one crazy, who tried to run down pedestrians while shouting "DESIGNATED SIDEWALK!!" from her SUV. Andy in his peace flag merely assaulted her vehicle, then wished her a safe ride home.

So we got home safely, lit some sparklers off the porch, and watched some Schoolhouse Rock. Happy Birthday, America.

"All the grace and courtesy of a horny water buffalo". Wow. That's one I don't think I've ever heard of (or thought of). Mom
