On Saturday night, Diane called to ask me to bring strawberries to Esther's party, for the chocolate fountain. Unfortunately, most grocery stores were (and many still are) out of strawberries and other fine fruit from the lovely but frozen state of California.
Well, that's not the case over at Joe Caputo's, our local produce market. Lately, even lettuces have been super expensive at regular grocery stores, so we went there tonight, because they have EVERYTHING and it's always cheap, cheap, cheap.
Tonight was no exception, and the freeze doesn't seem to have dented Caputo's low prices. I don't know why we don't always go there - parsley was $0.59 for a big bushel, as opposed to $2 for the measly bushels at Jewel or Dominicks.
Oh, and the strawberries were positively ginormous. They only fit like 7 in one of those big cartons. If I'd gotten the call earlier on Saturday, I'd have showed up to the party with fist-sized strawberries instead of the assorted cookies I ended up bringing.
So I celebrated by giving the bunnies two huge salads tonight - one for each of them. They look like they're having fun, and Zelda's eye is looking a tad better. We decided to start giving her penicillin shots last night, and I hope it works to stave off whatever eye infection she's got going.
Sigh...it's tough to satisfy rabbit owners with produce (because basically we show up and buy three heads of romaine, green leaf, red leaf, boston, etc., not to mention visually knowing the difference between cilantro and parsley in two seconds), but I think we did it tonight. And the bunnies are happy!
Anything for the pets, right?
