So, Saturday night, we were driving home on I-90 after Reyna's party, and there is a car literally ON FIRE on the side of the road. Some accident had just happened, and the car was on its side up against the guard rail, shooting HUGE orange flames out of the engine.
Now, I consider myself to have a pretty good life. I'm well-traveled, intelligent, married to a great guy, and studying law in downtown Chicago. I have the cutest bunny in the world, and the best family and friends I could imagine. Really.
However, lately it's been a kind of high-stress time. Dad's in the hospital, school is really grinding down on me, and I've been ill in one way or another for over a month. (Update on Dad: I learned today that Uncle Ed is a confirmed marrow match for my dad! Silver lining, anyone?)
After Saturday's car fire, though, I think I've got a new perspective. Whenever something gets me down, and no matter how bad things get, I can always say:
"Hey, at least my car's not on fire."

That's similar to what I tell people when they start complaining about their lives. "At least you're not on fire." I don't know if it helps at all, but at least they stop complaining.
ya, some kid was complaining about a calculus test and a speech. all i said was, "at least you have your health."
Congratulations on your uncle being a match!
That is the best news ever that your uncle is a match for your dad. I was thinking about him yesterday and wondering if he had found one. Thank god.
Certain events puts other things in perspective. I used to worry about things, but with Dad in the hospital, everything else is on the back burner.
Like the kid worrying about his test and speech you say Michelle. I don't like doing that either, but gave one last week and it wasn't even a thought or worry.
