Well, it was my first official day of law school today - notice I don't say "full," because I only had two classes, but I did spend almost all day working on things relating to school, so I guess I didn't do too badly.
So, as you might guess, this photo is of me on my first day of school ever - my entrance into the first grade. My mom took this picture of me and my sister, and there I am: beaming with my fancy shoes and new backpack full of school supplies, ready to take on anything.
And here I am again - sans the fancy shoes. I've got good walking shoes now, for long treks to and from the train station. I do, however, have a new backpack. It's not quite as flashy as the one I had in first grade (which I LOVED, by the way), but it'll do.
And there is quite a story with the backpack. Dave and I bought it today, to replace the torture device shoulder-strap laptop bag that we bought from Best Buy. I was walking around downtown like I had a gimpy leg or something, the way this thing made me tilt and bend and ache with racking pains. Obviously I needed something a little more balanced & comfy, what with the laptop and heavy casebooks I will be toting around.
Anyway, the point of this post was not to complain about the shoulder bag, or to rave about my new backpack (although I certainly could - it's so great!). The point was to back up my earlier post of the day, which is that I'm really excited about something new.
And also - time really flies. I guess it doesn't seem that long ago that that photo of me was taken (and it certainly doesn't seem that way to my mother - see her blog post on the subject). But, I think I have a better backpack now - if not better shoes.
By the way, this was my 100th post. Hoorah for me and my prolific writing obsession!

Aww...
Yeah, you with your golden locks and cherubic cheeks are pretty cute in those days.
Too bad that now you're a crazy pirate! Arrr!!!
And I think I have better wardrobe now than I did back then...at least I hope I do.
Valerie, Congrats on your 100th post! It will probably take me years, right? Better wardrobe? You loved that dress (actually you hardly ever wore anything BUT dresses at that age). You both are very cute. It looks so dark our, what time did I get you up to go to school 4am? Mom
Just kidding about the wardrobe - I loved all my clothes when I was a kid. I even loved that crazy flourescent pink jump suit! And remember that jean skirt with the pears on the butt? Oh man...If I could get my hands on that now, I'd probably still try to wear it.
