A family resemblance

This picture is from last week's visit to Stacy and Lexi — and what a sweet baby! Stacy got lucky with this one. And while there's still nothing in me that looks at a baby and thinks, "Wow, I've got to have one of these," I did almost have one of those moments when Lexi grabbed my thumb with her little hand.

Anyway, when Stacy sent me this picture, I looked at it and was reminded of the pictures of my mom with me when I was a baby. A prime example, from my christening:

This picture makes me think of several things:

1. Wow, I'm a cute baby!

2. Wait...I was christened? Damnit!

3. Jeez, my parents were young...and so '70s...

4. I look so much like them now, especially my mom.

I do hope that, if I have a baby, she's as cute (and well-behaved) as I hear I was when I was a baby, or as Lexi is now. (Note I said "she" — I will not be reproducing until they can genetically guarantee me a girl.)

Things really do come full-circle.

Yes, you were a very cute and well behaved baby, always smiling. People used to tell me I was doing my job right, because you (and Michelle also) were always so happy. It wasn't the 70's, early 80's (which is hard to tell the difference). You look more like me, most say, which I think the kids should look more like the mom. You or Michelle are going to have boys, and I get to sit back and watch the fun!

Even though it was the early '80s, you and Dad still look so '70s. Although, in my retro-colored sweater, I look pretty '70s myself.

I better not have boys. No matter what I have, it'll look the same, since Dave and I look so alike anyway. Random strangers are now asking us if we're related...great.

mom, don't you wish i was still that well-behaved? haha

and anyway val, i dont think you or i are having kids anytime soon, which makes me a little sad bc i was looking forward to being an aunt- id be the only one!! it's weird to think that since we have so many aunts and uncles

OK, I'll have a couple if you'll have a couple. Deal?

In addition to you, who would be anyone's favorite aunt, my kids would have enough non-related aunts and uncles in the form of my friends, good lord.

Valerie & Michelle,
You both have PLENTY of time to have offspring. There is no rush. No pressure here. Maybe by the time I have grandkids, I will be out of school!
