Western road trip, day 4: road to ND

This morning I went for a brief walk down by the river, then we worked a half day from the hotel room before hitting the road. We didn't want to blow all of our vacation time with this trip, so we are working about 50-60% of the time to stay on top of things.

Today we drove from the Twin Cities to Bismarck, ND and wanted to stop to see a few things along the way.

First up was Big Ole, a viking statue in Alexandria, MN that commemorates the discovery of America many years before Columbus by the vikings. In the middle of Minnesota. I don't understand it, but I accept it.

We got lunch at a cute place in Alexandria and hit the road for Fargo, ND - this was my first time setting foot in the state! We stopped in Fargo for beers at Drekker Brewing, a renowned brewery in the area. They are known for their fruited smoothie-style sour beers and their hazy IPAs.

The beers were so good that I was actually mad that I don't live here. We bought some in cans to take with us and found some more of the fruited smoothie beers at a local liquor store.

Drekker earned high ratings from us. A worthy destination.
Our destination within the state was Bismarck, where we are staying the night and working until we see my uncle and his family in Minot tomorrow. The rolling hills of North Dakota were lovely, and we watched a storm roll in and over us. The air smelled like mown grass.

We arrived in town at about 8:30 and headed straight to Laughing Sun Brewing for beers and dinner. Dave got a pulled pork sandwich that he enjoyed very much, and we split a small flight of beers.

On the way over to the hotel, we stopped at Alley Art, a small art installation on an alley near Main and 5th in downtown Bismarck. I really wish there was something for me to yarn bomb there.

Now we're ensconced in the hotel and ready to work tomorrow, then see my family in the evening!
