Yarn bombing Chicago's 606 trail!

Yarningdale!!

The big day finally happened - I've been working on a large, multi-contributor yarn installation on the Bloomingdale Trail / "606" Humboldt Bridge, and it is finally done!

Busy yarn bombers working

We held several info sessions in May and July to get people acquainted with the project, Block Club Chicago did a piece on the project in June, and around 30 people came with panels in hand!

More installing

Some of the panels made your mouth water...

Some made you feel like you were in nature...

Butterflies!

Mine was actually one of the least flashy ones. I didn't have much time after the Forum project was finished, so I made some strips from London Kaye yarn, arranged them in rainbow order, and wove them together.

Pre-weaving

Post-weaving

After hearing everyone talk about plans for their panels, it was so wonderful to finally see them come together.

Creative use of negative space!

My creative partner on the project - and the impetus for the whole thing, not to mention website designer and project manager extraordinaire - was Mary Morgan Ryan. We had a blast and a half and are already thinking of new ideas for next year, although we are certainly taking a breather.

Me and Mary

The panels will be up at the Humboldt Overlook through August and September, coming down October 2.
