Zelda update

Well, I'm happy to report that Zelda appears to be recovering!

When I wrote the last post, I was really worried about her. I have never left her overnight in the hospital before, and we've never seen her that sick b
efore. She was lethargic, couldn't stand, couldn't eat, couldn't poop, and just looked generally miserable.

The vet put her on an IV drip of medicine and
hydration, but especially considering Zelda's age, she didn't appear to optimistic about the prognosis. Zelda's temperature had dropped so low that they put her in the bird and reptile room, too, which had to be kind of bizarre.

During a break in law review orientation this morning, I called Dave, who was happy to report that the vet noted a marked improvem
ent. He had called at about 9 a.m., and only eight hours after we'd dropped her off, she had already started walking around and eating. I guess the IV drip really worked!

So, after law review orientation today, Dave and I visited Zelda at the vet. She did indeed look much better, although obviously still very tired. The poor thing still had her IV sticking out of her arm - yikes. It was
half cute, half sad.

When we saw her, she was not only standing up, but clearly pooping everywhere. We pet her and brushed her fur, and she licked our hands in gratitude. I think she almost fell asleep with her head in my hands. All in all I was very happy to see her feeling better, but we decided that another night of IV fluids and medicine would be the safest thing for her.

Lost in all this is the little man, who seems very forlorn without his Zelda. It's funny, too, because I never
thought I would see them this attached to each other, but he loves her with all of his little heart. He has seemed very upset and lonely, and appreciated it when I petted him more than usual.

He doesn't know that she will be back with us tomorrow afternoon, but I'm sure he will be very happy to see her. We will be, too, for that matter!

Aww, I'm happy to have her back home; we'll keep her around as long as she decides to stay.
