A weekend in Chicago

OK, first off, I'm really excited about my new mini herb garden:

It has a rosemary plant, flanked by two basil plants. I had to remove it from the porch yesterday during a gale, but I have faith that this little garden will provide me with very tasty herbs throughout the summer.

Though I've been busy with research lately
, Dave and I have found ways to get out of the house for fun outings.

On Friday, Julie happened to be in the area, so she stopped by and we went to Buffalo Wild Wings! Unfortunately we were interrupted by an apparent hurricane, but everybody made it home OK.

Last night, Dave and I got to see Simplicity, a former band of my law school buddy, Stephen. They called Stephen up on stage, and it was good to finally see him play guitar. It had been a while since we saw any live shows.

Then, today, we did our annual Gimme S
helter! Walk for the Animals, a charity dog walk held in the West Ridge neighborhood of Chicago by the Red Door Animal Shelter. It's always good to see all the owners and their dogs. This year even opened with some warmup calisthenics, which got the dogs quite riled up.

I got to pet some really cute dogs - here I'm shown with a beautiful Bernese mountain dog, which is one of my favorite dog breeds. (I love anything big, fluffy, and dopey.)

Usually we meet up with a bunch of friends with dogs, but this year all the law folks flaked out (ahem!) and we were by ourselves. Still, it's fun to mix with the pet owners, and the adorable little West Ridge houses are fun to check out.

Maybe in a few years, we'll have our own dog to bring. Dave and I have talked more and more seriously about buying a dog, although we have the bunnies to consider. Some breeds we love are: Keeshond, Golden Retriever, Alaskan Malamute, Great Pyrenees, and Samoyed.

I think Keeshond might be my #1 breed, after growing up around my friend Katie's Misty. Then again, Dave loves Goldens after his goofy Mac. So, maybe we'll get one of each someday. (Oh, to have a house...with a lawn...and more than one bedroom...)
