Yesterday, Dave and I had a good time at my parents' house; however, a freak accident landed Dave in the emergency room for the better part of the evening.
We had come down to visit my parents during their garage sale, and we had a generally relaxing and profitable day. However, after Dave innocently went off down the driveway to shoot some hoops, I saw him hobbling back, gingerly walking on his right foot.
Apparently he'd gone to play basketball barefooted and injured his foot when he landed on the blacktop the wrong way. I only saw the wound for a moment, but it was long enough that my mom and I ran back into the house shrieking.
After deciding that he had basically ripped several layers of skin off of his foot, we elected my dad to take him to Silver Cross emergency. There, they bonded while the doctors and nurses cleaned his wound and cut off the torn, dead skin. I felt bad not going, but the guys knew that Mom and I can't take looking at that nastiness. (We joked that Dad was happy to be taking somebody else to the hospital for a change!)
So, now Dave is hobbling around on crutches waiting for the skin on his foot to grow back. Eww. He'll be off work for a few days, though he's going to try to go back as soon as possible. Luckily foot skin cells are some of the fastest-regenerating cells in the body!
