I just printed out my first big legal writing assignment of the year - the infamous MEMO.
My class's memo concerns Illinois Supreme Court Rule 216 request for admissions - when a party in litigation asks another party to admit that certain facts are true, to narrow the issues for trial.
Our memo is about an attorney who basically forgot to file a response before the 28-day deadline, and how he can get around the rule due to his circumstances. I figured I'd explain what the memo is about, because I have been posting about the memo, and people have asked what it's about, because I haven't really explained what it is!
Anyhoo, I was telling Dave about it tonight, and he read a little bit of it, and he said, quote-unquote, that it was the most boring paper he'd ever read, haha. But hey, as any lawyer will tell you, procedure is important!
Oh, legal writing. How I wish you were pass/fail.
