Let's start with Zelda, who is (for once) the easy one. One of her teeth rotted at the roots and started to fall out, but was digging into her chin. The vet had to put her under, then take that tooth out and shave down some spurs on the other side. Poor bunny.
Zelda recuperates on me after having a tooth pulledAs for the little man, whom I thought was entirely healthy: he's got one of the most pain-in-the-ass things that a bunny can contract - an abscess in his jaw. His tooth got infected at the root, too, but the infection stayed in his jaw instead of oozing out like Zelda's.
He's got to have an operation and lots of intensive medicine, which is both time-consuming and expensive. Very expensive. But there's no way we can't do it - he's so healthy otherwise, and he loves our Zelda. He's our bunny, and we agreed to care for him.
But does anybody have $1,000 for a sick bunny?

Poor bunnies. I really admire you guys for paying for the treatments even though they're expensive. Like you said, that's what comes with owning pets, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who wouldn't. I hope they feel better soon.
And hey, you could always start a charity auction on Ebay to raise money! It definitely wouldn't be the craziest thing I've seen on Ebay....
Well, the good news (which I will post about once I start doing it) is that another House Rabbit Society member told me about treatment with injectable penicillin, which tons of rabbit owners have been thrilled about, and is a non-invasive, effective way to treat abscesses. Oh and did I mention that penicillin cost my HRS friend $8 a bottle? I think we'll be trying that first...
