When some bunny loves you
Bunny update: I took Moby to a new vet this morning, who agreed to try the penicillin regimen with him, as she's had a lot of success with it before.
Therefore, instead of immediately settling for an invasive, horrifying and expensive surgery, the vet drained the abscess, gave us a penicillin injection, and showed me how to do it every other day.
The whole visit - minor surgery and a year's supply of penicillin - was a little over $100, instead of almost $1,400.
I'm so glad I got involved with the House Rabbit Society of Chicago - the other rabbit "moms" were able to point me in the direction of a vet who was willing to try something new, and more reasonable for our lifestyle and budget.
May I also point out how much my rabbits love each other? After surgery, rabbits often attack each other because of odd smells and behavior. However, all Zelda and Moby want to do is lick each other and try to make each other feel better.
However, the humans in this house are just as stressed as the bunnies. At 6:30 a.m. I woke up with shooting pains in my neck, but after the vet visit this morning, I finally started to feel better. When your pet is sick, you are reminded how fragile life can be. Personally, I'm reminded of losing Finn, which was one of the worst experiences of my life.
Even with all this, I wouldn't give up my bunnies for the world. You're nobody unless some bunny loves you.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;o)
