Today was my first law exam! One down, three to go!
This morning, it seemed that something was going to get in the way of arriving for the exam. There was a pedestrian traffic jam inside the train station, and the brown line was a bit delayed. It's just not additional stress that tight-wound law students need when arriving to school to receive their only grade of the year.
Like I did when I started school, I still feel that some divine intervention will prevent me from arriving for exams. Perhaps tectonic plates will shift, causing a continental divide to spring up between Palatine and downtown Chicago, preventing my train from arriving. Perhaps God will reach down, pick up my L train, and shake the hell out of it, sending passengers flying to their deaths. I don't know what I think will happen, but I always worry about just showing up.
Fortunately, as my contracts professor has said, showing up is 90% of success in life. (I think studying your brains out must make up the other 10%.)
I don't want to jinx it, but I think I did well on my exam. I was so relieved that I was actually in a good mood for the rest of the afternoon (though sangria with Chad and Chris probably helped).
Today we also picked up our take-home contracts exam. Don't think this one will be any easier than the sit-down, three-hour one. There are complicated issues of breach of contract, which I tried to explain to Dave in the briefest way possible (though he still glazed over much as I glaze over when he talks philosophy).
The good thing is that at least the contracts exam is fun to read. Maybe it was funnier with all the sangria and Spanish beer, but how many professors can work the phrase "no account tramp" into their exam? Just our Jacobs.
Now I'm off to enjoy a night of mental relaxation. I just dumped a lot of Civil Procedure-related information out this morning, and I think my brain is still trying to catch up.
Post-exam mindless quote of the night: "Babies look funny." 'Nuff said.
