Bunny Overload

It's the HRS Chicago BunnyFest Picnic 2006!

See how cute Zelda was in her leash? She was the star of the show.

Everyone was impressed with the fact that we had Zelda on a leash, and that she was so well-behaved. (They didn't see her eat our remote control last night.) Apparently it's difficult to get rabbits to tolerate a harness, but Zelda can tolerate just about anything.

Then there were the other bunnies Zelda made friends with:

Juniper

We don't know the name of this guy, but he is Juniper's mate and at one point he caused some drama by escaping from his pen during the picnic, causing one volunteer to yell, "Whose rabbit is THAT?!"

Hannah, who was adopted out to a couple looking for a friend for Peyton:

There were lots of treats, for humans & bunnies alike, and it appears my lemon bars were a success.

Zelda was such a good bunny through the whole picnic: she ate grass, sniffed at other bunnies, hopped around a bit, and laid in the sun. We really are spoiled with her. People recognized her from the flyer, or from the article I wrote in the HRS newsletter. It's good to volunteer and feel like you're making a difference in the lives of animals!

Speaking of which, I wrote letters to four companies last night on behalf of PETA, one to congratulate Welch's for ending animal tests for its juice, and three to Ocean Spray, P.O.M., and Tahitian Noni to urge them to stop testing their juice on animals in cruel experiments.

Tomorrow, the Gimme Shelter! Walk for the animals - it's turning out to be quite an animal-friendly weekend!

The bunnies are so cute!!! I still miss my little one, Thumper. She used to come to work with my on her leash and loved being out in the sun. She was always so good while we were out, but almost two years later I'm still finding things that she chewed on at home. We really loved her.

It's great that you are doing so much.

How do you test juice on animals? Never mind, I don't want to know.

See PETA's website, it's pretty gross.
