We booked a trip to Mexico City - our first to our neighbor south of the border!
We had an early flight from Portland, Maine, connecting through Atlanta. We got down to Mexico City in the mid-afternoon, enjoying a welcome drink at our hotel, Casa de la Luz, a boutique hotel in a monastery in the Centro Historico. Our Uber driver from the airport, as with all Uber drivers on the trip, was a maniac and I loved him. They drive fearlessly here.

We were both pretty hungry, but before the sun set, we wanted to take a walk around the sights. The central square, Zócalo, was fun to walk around and was bordered by the Metropolitan Cathedral...

And the National Palace...

We had a lot of drinking spots picked out for the trip, so to spread them out, I suggested we grab a beer before dinner. We selected Tio Pepe's for the first night, so we could check in a beer on Untappd. It's a 150-year-old cantina! I got a beer "cubano" style, which in Chicago we would call chelada (beer with salt and lime). I tried to order a michelada, but he said they were out of sauce.

We went back to the hotel for dinner, because the menu looked pretty tasty. The restaurant in Casa de la Luz is called Tezontle. I tried my first tlayuda, a corn tortilla pizza thing from Oaxaca. It was very nice, but we were so stuffed!
