11-mile bike ride

We decided to christen the bikes this season at the Schaumburg forest preserve - an 11-mile loop!

In the first mile or so, we saw a deer about 20 feet off the path. It was awesome.

We curved around toward Higgins, and of course we had to take a photo of the real elk grove in Elk Grove. We found a huge buck lounging in the woods:

Again, awesome. Not quiet as random as the deer, considering these guys are in an enclosure, but still.

After we crossed Higgins, our trip became much less enjoyable. There was some 5K or another being held, and after seeing literally dozens of signs on the path, I still have no idea what this charity does. Only that it attracts hundreds of very annoying runners on the bike path that we were forced to weave around. Sigh.

Anyway, it was a great day, and we had a lot of fun in the sun. We had a nice little recovery lay-down in the grass afterward, and I made a personal vow to do a big bike ride like this at least a couple of times a month.
