Apple picking

We went fruit picking again at Valley Orchard in Cherry Valley. We got blackberries, raspberries, and a variety of delicious apples.

First, we tried to pick blackberries, but the bushes we used last time were picked pretty much clean. (We found more over by the raspberries later.) So we turned to the apples.

We grabbed McIntosh, MaCoun, Jonagold, and Yellow Delicious. They were beautiful and juicy on the bushes, and we picked over 15 pounds of apples.

While the raspberries were really scant last time, they seemed to really be out in force this time. In all, we got a full pint of about 2/3 raspberries and 1/3 blackberries. We could have gotten more raspberries, but this was a good amount and we had to get out of there before the bees got Dave.

I already have big plans for this fruit. Today my European travel buddies Rob, Diane, and Mike are coming over for a picture sharing party, so I'm making berry tarts. (Similar to the strawberry tarts I made on Friday.)

Also, I want to do another French apple tart and other stuff with apples, like apple pies, apple crostatas, apple strudels, and other apple dishes!

Can't wait to go back again - what am I going to do all winter without delicious fresh-picked apples?
