One more reason why the superdelegate system sucks

Superdelegates are non-elected party officials who vote for candidates in the Democratic convention. They contrast with plain old non-super delegates in that regular delegates are actually voted in by citizens in state caucuses or primaries.

I don't think a lot of people have thought too much about who the superdelegates are. The roster of superdelegates includes party officials such as state governors, senators, representatives, and Democratic National Committee members.

You realize what this means, don't you?

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton themselves are superdelegates, who (of course) voted for themselves. Don't believe me? Look here.

Of course, the idea of politicians voting for themselves is nothing new. I'm sure every president (besides maybe Jimmy Carter) voted for themselves in their state elections. But a superdelegate vote is the equivalent of around nine or ten thousand citizen votes!

At least they canceled out each other's votes, I guess. Still, the whole thing seems silly to me, and I think it should just be a popular vote. Oh, and disband the Electoral College, while you're at it.
