Following the Paris Hilton saga? (As if you can help it?)
Maybe I'm just callous, but I think serial killers have taken their death sentences better than this. If anybody besides this idiot had gotten caught drinking and driving on a suspended license, the sentence would have been harsher, the jail cell wouldn't be 'special needs,' and they wouldn't have been let out of their cell in the first place.
Meanwhile, a young man has been in prison awaiting appeal for more than two years because he had underage consensual oral sex in the Bible Belt. Of the legislators responsible for the loophole that sent him to prison, I bet 80 percent had experienced some kind of sexual activity by the time they were the defendant's age.
Some people just exist under a thin veil of denial and double standards.

I totally agree. It seems like that entire family is completely out of touch with reality. A lot of people have said that if she actually serves her full sentence (which I still doubt she will), she will end up serving more time than most DUI offenders. I think that is a sign that all DUI sentences should be stiffer, not that Paris' sentence was unfair.
However, the entire system needed to be consistent throughout the process. Why would the sheriff change her sentence when he didn't have the authority to do so?
