Ahh, spring must really be here.
On the Madison Avenue bridge this evening, my favorite bum in Chicago - the Drum Bum - has returned!
This is literally the only bum I have ever given money to in my entire life - but he provides a service, playing the drums on the bridge! And every now and then, when I walk by, he yells "We got DePaul in da house!!" It used to freak me out, but now I look forward to it.
Oh, and his "drums" are really overturned paint cans. But still, he's an entrepreneur, putting together his little kit. Go drum bum!

You have a favorite bum?? Man, I wish I lived in the city!
Ok, so I looked back at this and realized my comment probably sounds sarcastic. It's totally not. It would be cool to experience all the quirkiness of the city, stuff you don't really get to see in B-N. Everyone thinks that Chicago is so unfriendly compared with smaller cities, but it's not; it's just bigger. When I was in Chicago a few weeks ago, a street cleaner said to my mom and I, "I'm gonna make sure if they have the Olympics here, this is gonna be the cleanest Olympic city they've ever seen." How cool is that???
I didn't take your comment sarcastically. :o)
I always thought Chicago, compared to the 'burbs, was kind of a dirty place, but a lot of people at school have come here from other big cities across America, and a lot of them have said that this is the cleanest big city they have ever been in. It's true - last semester, during a big rain, there was a guy outside literally washing the road with a ginormous broom.
Update on the Drum Bum: The cold snap has driven him back into his Drum Lair, but he will return.
