Well, it's been a fun Christmas weekend so far! We opened gifts on Christmas Eve (yesterday), and I got videos and other goodies. We've been visiting Dad in the hospital almost constantly.
Here's a picture of Dad doing his lung exercises - we call it his "bong," because he has to suck air out of this thing that looks like it could be drug paraphernalia.
It's really heartening to hear the nurses say that he's a great patient. He's supposed to be hitting his low point today, and Uncle Ed's stem cells are supposed to be flowing through his body and rebuilding his immune system.
I've been so proud of how well he's handling everything. Of course, no one wants to be in the hospital over Christmas, fighting leukemia. But he looks great, he's got his sense of humor, and he's doing everything he can to get well. We even decorated his IV tower (which he is now calling his Festivus Pole).
I hope the hospital doesn't kick us out, haha. We are so vile. Yesterday, walking up and down the hall with Dad, we got onto some conversation topics that most people might find unsavory for a hospital setting, haha. But we don't care. We've got no shame. We're Shermans.
Speaking of which, here's Michelle as "Freaky," the elf that everyone worries about. (Don't ask. Sherman inside joke.)
Right now, Dave and I are alone in the house - Michelle has to work and Mom is with Dad in the hospital. So until we go to my grandmother's house for the Smith get-together, we're watching Christmas videos from the '80s.
My mom taped all these shows when we were kids in 1986 or so, so not only do we have the classics (Charlie Brown, Frosty the Snowman, He-Man & She-Ra, The Claymation Christmas special...), but we also have the AWESOME '80s commercials. Remember the dancing chicken nuggets? Remember the "Oooh, ahhh, mmmm..." Mounds commercials? We've got them all.
OK, back to Charlie Brown. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
