Today, I checked out the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society website on a whim, as I've been meaning to do a Team in Training event for some time, and also because my dad is nearing the point at which he will be considered "in remission" for AML (acute myelogenous leukemia). I think I'm going to sign up for the Light the Night walk in Chicago this month, but I need more info on that one.
Anyway, I went on the message boards, onto the message thread for adult children of parents with leukemia. It was pretty sad to see people's stories, but one person did say that their mother was recently diagnosed with AML and wanted advice and information on what to do/expect, so I posted an at-length description of what happened with my dad and what I did to try to help him.
It got me thinking about everything that has happened since my dad was diagnosed with leukemia, and how relieved I have been that everything went as well as it did. I remember how everyone came out of the woodwork to write him letters and wish him well, and how important that was to his recovery.
So, I'll post another update when the doctor says that Dad is deemed to be in remission, and until then, keep up the good thoughts.

Valerie, thanks to you and Dave for walking. Dad & I might, if the timing works. We should go, seeing that he has come such a long way in 2 years.
Thanks for researching and posting on this.
