So, I went back to my old office today to pick up some things and tie up some loose ends, so I figured while I was there, I'd have lunch with people, too.
Unfortunately, when you leave a company, some people start treating you differently. For example, at some point around the time I officially gave my notice, people that I regularly went to lunch with just stopped asking me to go with them.
I talked to another friend about this, and she said I'm probably thinking of coworkers as friends even though they don't think of me in the same way. It's probably true, but I wish it hadn't been.
It's one thing I didn't really expect when I prepared to leave my company - I didn't expect that relations with people would change, even though they did. I guess people don't want to get too attached, when they know you're a lame duck.

When you work in an office, you'll understand, haha.
Mom's office is like that, too. Her friend got continually left out of the "let's go get take-out" ring, and felt hurt about it.
Being asked to lunch is a big deal in an office situation. It even is mentioned in a Seinfield episode (I guess everything at one time was mentioned - right?)
Valerie, I know people don't like it when I say this, but things change. You don't work with those people anymore, and so you don't have that in common. There are many VM people I don't keep in touch with, that I thought I would. You just get busy with your next job/school/staying home with the wee one. Time heals all.

Yeah, things do change, and it especially a shame about the VM people, because you worked with them for so long.
