Idiots beyond words

Anyone who has been to my parents' house in the past few years has probably noticed my dad's dinosaurs at the end of our driveway. The dinosaurs pose almost as sentinels guarding the Sherman property, steadfastly watching you as you drive past them.

My mom called me today to tell me that one of th
em - the male - was ripped from its post and stolen.

I don't even know what to say to convey how upsetting this is to me and my family. I haven't talked to my dad, but I'm sure he's extremely, extremely upset.

The neighborhood was made a little better by my dad's metal sculptures - they were becoming something of a landmark. They were a fun pastime for him while he was home sick with leukemia, and they are a great way to show off his mad skills as a welder and junk finder.

And now he has to not only try to find the missing dinosaur, but he is taking them down, as well, and moving them closer to the house. At least they didn't take the female, as well, or any of his other sculptures.

Why can people not just enjoy nice things - why do they have to vandalize, steal, and ruin?

While my dad is improving the neighborhood, they have to make it worse?! Seriously, why do they feel compelled to steal the artwork of a cancer survivor, for god's sake?! Like my dad doesn't have enough to worry about!!

I'm glad I took pictures for him and made his book of creations last year - I'm glad I caught every single angle of the untouched dinosaur on film, so even if he never finds it again, at least he can see it and remember.

But I doubt he will ever do anything like this for the idiots of that street again. People ruin everything that's exceptional in the world, and they don't deserve my dad's art.

OMG, Val, I'm so sorry. People are so senseless.

Your dad's sculptures brighten everyone's day.

Val, how am I going to be able to find your parents' house now? I navigated by the dinosaurs! Every time I visit, the creativity of your dad's sculptures makes me smile. I hope whoever stole it is so consumed by guilt that they can't sleep at night. :0( Please let your dad know that I'm really sorry...and the next time he should make one with a motion sensor that will make it bite if someone tries to move it.

Dad's picture along with the remaining female was in the Joliet Herald on Sat. August 19th. A police report also has been made. A reward was mentioned in the article, no calls made to us yet. Dad has moved the female to the backyard close to the forest, actually she looks good there. Dad has some hope of finding him, but it doesn't look good at this point.
