Four dozen years

First things first: Happy birthday to my mom!

Dave and I went down to my parents' house this weekend to celebrate her birthday, and it was a good time had by all.

Saturday morning I got my tetanus-diptheria booster shot, which nearly caused me to faint in the doctor's office. This happened once earlier when I was a kid, with my mom getting a vaccination. It appears I don't take needles well.

Saturday night, it was girls' night out! (And Rob and Dave came out, too.)

Woo, martinis! Who knew New Lenox had a bar?

We celebrated my mom's birthday today by giving her presents and cards, and then going out to L.A. Cafe in New Lenox.

As an aside, I do hope L.A. stays in business; it seems a lot of New Lenox-area restaurants are fading out, to be replaced by big-name chains. I've always said my home town could use a few more restaurant choices, but I didn't mean it should be at the expense of the local icons.

Speaking of which, Dave and I stopped by another local favorite on our way home: Ranch Frostie! Oh to remember the days of post-softball-game visits to this eatery, and delicious chocolate-covered ice cream.

So, that was the weekend. I've been unwinding since leaving work on Friday, and it hasn't quite sunk in yet that I won't be returning to full-time work for quite some time.

What am I going to do next week?! Well, I could think of a few things for a To-Do List:

1. Go downtown to create DePaul student I.D. and pick up student public transportation pass

2. Clean up pile of Halloween foam crafting items

3. Finish honeymoon & Fibre-Craft scrapbooks and put away scrapbook crafting products

4. Paint bathroom & hang Edward Hopper painting

5. Figure out Metra train schedule for first week back to school

6. Find someone to take the bunnies while we go to the beach

Oh how fun! It's good that you get some time to relax before starting school.

And, I faint from shots too! Not all the time, but once when I was getting a vaccine for Mexico, and once when I was giving blood.

Nice picture of you girls, too bad Jackie had her eyes shut. With Rob and Dave over Sat. night and Dad there, I was actually outnumbered by males in the house! Now I know how Dad felt all these years with you 2 girls and your friends outnumbering him all the time! What's with your picture at Ranch Frostie, how about "Valerie, turn and smile, I'm taking a picture!" I didn't know you had that Edward Hopper picture. I remember it from a gamewe played as kids "Masterpiece". I'll have to ask Aunt Jan if she still has it. It's a riot to play. Did you get someone for the bunnies?

Sorry about the run-on paragraph. I'm sure you'll have a field day with that one - you editor you! Mom

There was another picture of me turning and smiling at Ranch Frostie, but this one was a better shot of the sign. Plus, this captured the moment better - me fumbling with the quickly melting ice cream cone.

We have a print of the Edward Hopper painting from one of our visits to the Art Institute, but we haven't been able to hang it yet because I wanted to wait until the bathroom was painted.

Now you've got to come see the condo, all nice and shiny...

Oh, and no, I haven't found someone for the bunnies yet.

Update, we're leaving the bunnies with a local bunny boarder, if you can believe that someone does such a thing for a living.
