"We can judge the heart of man by his treatment of animals."
-Immanuel Kant
Today I made a trip to Animal 911 of Skokie to pick up a refund check. I had to pick up this check myself because these people are apparently incapable of sending it by mail, which should not surprise me (considering the reason we are receiving the check in the first place).
I didn't want to go back to Animal 911. The last time I was there, it was a late night in May, and we were bringing our bunny, Finn, as an emergency. We came home and Finn was unable to stand, crying out loud in pain (which is a horrific noise to begin with, from a rabbit).
We brought him to Animal 911, though he had actually died on the way over in the car. They offered to have him cremated, and we accepted. They were supposed to have us come pick up his ashes, but somehow they managed to lose them. Yes, the office lost the ashes of my dead bunny rabbit.
Then, after we discover the ashes are in fact lost, we play phone tag with the manager for weeks until they say they will send a refund check for the cost of the personal cremation we had ordered. Then, they say the check delivery failed, and can we come pick it up? Sure. Why not.
So I show up today, after work, and she hands me the envelope. I open it and look at the check, and guess who they wrote it to?
David Mugger.
Who is David Mugger? I don't know a David Mugger. I happen to be married to a David MUSSER - is that who you mean? Do you mean that after misplacing the ashes of my dead rabbit, and after you refused to call us back for months...and then after you failed to mail us the check, and force me to come to your office after my work...you can't even spell our name right?!
As the bank clearly will not accept a check issued to one "David Mugger," I told them to mail me another damn check. I'm not coming in again.
I obviously shouldn't have trusted my deceased animal with this business; I don't know how many people trust them with their live ones.
Absolutely Hystorical!

Valerie, I never had heard the whole story about Finn, and I didn't know about the ashes, either (We MUST talk more). Sorry you and Dave had to go thru all that, but like I have said for years, one must fight for everything. Mom
Oh, we talk a lot! I haven't really talked a lot about the Finn experience because it's been so hard - I couldn't even think about it for months without crying. And all this lately has just been making me mad, so it's worth a rant. Justice for the bunny!!
Poor Finn. At least he was with you when he passed, not with those crazy people.
Do you have still have the messed up check? Even though you can't cash it, the bank will deposit it into your account. Acuvue spelled my first name "Sulle," in the rebate check they mailed me and I had no problems depositing it. And I didn't even sign the back; there must have been a new guy working that day.
Anyway, I don't know if you've seen this yet or not, but here's a link to a poem called "The Rainbow Bridge": http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html
Be warned though, I get a little teary eyed every time I read it.
Aww, the rainbow bridge poem is cute - certainly better than what Dave's teachers told him in grade school, which was that animals (including his dog Mac) were not allowed in heaven.
Sheesh, Catholics.
Anyway, we don't have the check, we'll just wait for it to come in the mail.
Yeah, one of my CCD teachers told me that animals weren't allowed in heaven, but then other CCD teachers told me they were, and that anyone, of any religion, was allowed in heaven as long as he or she was a good person. I think they must have gotten yelled at or something. No wonder I grew up being so confused about religion....
And of course, none of those teachers addressed the fact that not all religions believe in the Christian view of heaven (and that not all Christians even believe in heaven).
