Three blind mice

What a weekend! I now have proof that I'm as much of a bleeding-heart animal lover as I ever thought.

Mom's garage sale Saturday went really well, even though we didn't sell as much as we'd hoped. When you have that much crap, I guess, even getting rid of half of it is good.

During the sale, we found a nest of abandoned baby mice living in one of the lawn mowers my parents were trying to sell! They were tiny, blind, and helpless:

We rescued them, brought them in the house in a shoebox, and my sister has been feeding them kitten milk for the past day. Here's hoping that some of them make it.

Then it was off to Rob & Diane's for a Hawaiian luau, including burgers, chicken, my mom's potato salad, chocolate frogs, and pineapple upside-down cake!

Things got a little crazy & drunk, and we all did our part to make sure Rob didn't spill on the carpet again. As for me, I did a lap around the block, jogging in flip-flops for some reason.

I'm not sure why, but I get very physically active whenever I've had too much to drink. Maybe I could run a marathon if I downed a couple of mai tais!

Oh, and there was a crazy game of bean bags. Dave and I won, against Rob and Jackie, but the outcome was determined much more by Dave's well-placed bean bags than any shots I may or may not have made.

Then today we hit the Long Grove Strawberry Festival with Andy and Jo:

Here's me & Andy with a full pound of chocolate-covered strawberries... The thing about something like a strawberry festival is that, even when you fill up to the point of explosion with strawberries in every form, it's about the happiest form of full you can imagine.

We plan on visiting various other Chicago-area festivals this summer, such as the various Greek food festivals, and art shows, as well. If anyone wants to hit up a festival with us, let me know!

So, I'm sunburnt, full of mai tais and strawberries, and my replacement starts tomorrow. Here's to a month of training him in my cubicle!

Word of the day:

Sedulous: Diligent in application or pursuit; steadily industrious

Update on the mice. The one with the little white coloring on his head didn't make it, and unfortunately, that was Michelle's favorite. The other 2 seem to be eating at meal (milk) times and squirming around.

Aww, I'm sorry about the mice (I read the post after this already). Did I ever tell you my story about the duck egg I found?

Mmm, strawberries! You'll have to let me know when the next festival is, I need to get out more!
